Goyal Handicraft

We are right in Choti Basti, directly across from the ICICI Bank. It’s a good landmark because people always get lost trying to find these narrow streets. Goyal Handicraft has been here for a good while. The shop is basically one large room filled with all sorts of things we have collected and made. It can be a bit overwhelming when you first walk in. There are stacks of wood and fabric everywhere. We don't have a fancy display window or anything like that. People just walk in through the open door. It gets quite noisy with the bank traffic and the motorbikes outside. My father started this business, and I just sort of took over when he got older. We don't do any advertising. Most people hear about us from their cousins or friends. We just try to do a solid job with the handicrafts. If something isn't right, we fix it. It’s a lot of manual labor, and my back hurts by the end of the day usually. We close up around eight every night. The lights inside are a bit dim, but we know our way around. It’s a regular life, nothing special. We just sell what we have and hope people like it. The bank across the street always has a line, so sometimes people come over while they wait. That keeps us busy enough. We are just glad to have the work and a roof over our heads.
