Balaji Transformers

At RIICO Ind Area F 12, the day starts early before it gets too hot to move the heavy equipment. We are right here in the middle of the industrial zone, so it's all trucks and grease and the smell of hot metal. We deal with transformers, and that means a lot of checking and re-checking the coils and the oil. It’s a messy job sometimes, and you can’t really keep your clothes clean for long. The workshop is organized in our own way, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. We know exactly where the tools are. There’s a cat that hangs around the back of the building, and we give it some milk now and then. The neighbors at F 11 and F 13 are always coming over to borrow a wrench or just to complain about the heat. It’s a community of workers out here. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the work we do every day. When a big order goes out, we all feel a bit of relief. Then the next one comes in and we start all over again. It’s steady work. We just keep our heads down and focus on what’s in front of us. Some days are long, but we get it done. It is not always easy, but we have a good group of guys here and we get through the week together.
