Running a water business out here on Beawer Road means the days start before the sun is even up. We’re located near Balaji Ki Bagichi, which is a decent spot since the road is wide enough for the tankers to move around without too much trouble. Usually, the first thing I do is check the logs and see where the trucks need to go first. The yard is always a bit damp, and there’s the constant sound of water running or pumps humming in the background. It’s not a quiet job. We spend a lot of time on the phone, talking to people who need their tanks filled or checking in with the drivers to see where they are in the traffic. Beawer Road can get really jammed up in the afternoons, so we try to get most of the heavy work done early. The office is just a small room with a few chairs and a calendar on the wall that’s usually marked up with names and dates. It’s a bit cramped when everyone is there at once, but we aren’t inside much anyway. Most of the time is spent outside near the tanks or out on the road. We get a lot of dust from the passing vehicles, so things stay a bit gritty. It’s practical work. People need water, and we make sure it gets to them. When the last truck comes back in the evening, we finally shut things down.
