Chartered Carriers Ltd. is situated out on the Sarkhej-Bavla Highway. We are right at the Sanathal Chokdi in Ahmedabad. If you know that intersection, you know it’s one of the busiest spots for trucks and heavy vehicles. Our yard is usually full of trailers and drivers waiting for their next route. It’s a dusty place because of all the movement on the highway, and the sun really beats down on the asphalt out here. We have a small office building where we keep the logs and the keys. There’s always someone on the phone trying to figure out where a shipment is or why a truck is running late. It’s a lot of shouting and radio noise most of the time. We don't have fancy furniture or air conditioning that works all that well, but we get the jobs done. The 382210 area is very industrial, so we are surrounded by other transport companies and warehouses. Most of us have been working here for years and we know the drivers by their first names. We spend our mornings checking tires and making sure the paperwork is in the right hands before the trucks head out. It’s hard work and your hands are always a bit greasy from something. At night, the lights from the highway stay on, so it’s never truly dark or quiet at the Chokdi. We just keep moving along with the traffic.
