Ahmedabad Motor Transport Association

Our office is number 24 inside Transport Nagar in Narol. If you’ve ever been to this part of Ahmedabad, you know it’s a lot of dust and the constant sound of truck engines. It’s not a quiet place by any means. We’ve been here for quite some time, acting as a spot where the transport folks can get together. The walls are covered with old calendars and maps of the highway routes. It’s a very basic setup. We have a few chairs for people to sit in while they wait to talk about their trucks or the latest rules on the road. Being an association means there is always someone coming in with a problem or a question about freight. We spend a lot of time drinking tea and talking through things with the drivers. The area in Narol is always crowded with big vehicles, so getting into the office in the morning can take a bit of patience. We aren't a corporate office with fancy computers everywhere. It’s mostly just paper records and a lot of face-to-face talk. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit by the window until it comes back. It’s a community thing more than anything else. We know most of the owners who operate out of this hub. It’s hard work for everyone involved in transport, but we just try to keep things moving here. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit but it works.
