Walking down toward Pankornaka, you can’t really miss us. We are at 1188, right across from the Sahjananad Market. S Y Kadaiwala And Son'S has been a family thing for a long time. My grandfather used to sit in the same spot where my brother sits now. The shop is crowded with all sorts of metalware and things you'd expect in a place like this. It gets loud outside with the market crowd, but we’re used to the noise. We sell what people need for their cooking and daily life. It’s not about having the flashiest display. Most of our stock is stacked high because we don’t have much room to spare. Customers come in looking for specific sizes, and we usually know exactly which pile it’s buried under. It’s a bit dusty, honestly. We try to keep it clean, but with the doors open to the street all day, the dust just comes in. We don't spend money on fancy advertisements. People find us because their parents or neighbors told them we’ve been here forever. Sometimes we have tea with the other shopkeepers when things are slow in the afternoon. It’s a simple way to make a living. We know the metal, we know the weight, and we know our regulars. That’s plenty for us. If you need something for the kitchen, you just walk in and ask.
