Manek Chowk is a wild place to work, honestly. Rajlaxmi Fashion Jewellery is on the 3rd floor of Zaveri Chamber, right opposite Dedaka NI Pole. If you walk down M. G. Haveli Road, you can see the building, but you have to look up. Being in the heart of Manek Chowk means there is food and gold and people everywhere at all hours. Our space on the third floor is where we keep all the pieces we’ve collected. It isn’t a huge showroom like the ones on the ground floor with the big glass windows and guards. We have a heavy door and a lot of small drawers filled with items. The air inside is usually a bit cooler than the street, which is a relief. I sit at a small wooden table most of the day. The building is old, and the stairs are a bit narrow, so people usually take their time coming up. I like being up here because I can see a bit of the street life from the window when I take a break. It's a lot of work keeping track of everything, especially the small items that can get lost easily. We don't have a lot of staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. It’s a bit messy sometimes with packing materials and boxes lying around, but we know our way through it. It’s just how we run things in this old part of the city.
