Our factory is right on Hoshangabad Road, directly opposite the Reserve Bank of India. It’s a good landmark because everyone in Bhopal knows where the RBI is. Permali Wallace has been operating from this site for a long time. We work with various types of insulation and wood-based materials. It’s not the kind of stuff you see every day, but it’s important for heavy industry. The yard is usually full of raw materials and finished parts waiting to be loaded onto trucks. It can get pretty loud with the saws and the presses running, so we usually have to yell to be heard on the shop floor. The office part of the building is a bit quieter, but the dust still finds its way in no matter how much we sweep. We have a small canteen where the workers get their tea and snacks. Most of the people here have been with the company for twenty or thirty years. They know the machines better than the people who built them. We don't go in for anything fancy or modern in terms of decor. It’s all very functional. If a machine breaks down, we fix it ourselves. We just keep our heads down and make sure the orders are filled. Hoshangabad Road is always getting busier, but inside the gates, it’s just the same daily routine we’ve had for decades. We just keep moving forward with the work.
