Harsh Furniture is over at Punit Estate, right opposite Vallabhnagar. It’s a pretty good location for us. We’ve got a big space where we keep all the wood and the half-finished pieces. If you walk in, you’ll probably hear the sound of a saw or someone hammering something together. There’s always a layer of sawdust on the floor, no matter how much we sweep. We have sofas, chairs, and cupboards in various stages of being built. It’s not a polished showroom where everything is perfect and lit up with bright lights. It’s a workshop where real work happens. We spend our time measuring, cutting, and fitting things together. Sometimes we’re out back staining the wood, and the smell of the varnish is quite strong. The guys who work here have been doing this for a long time, so they know their way around a piece of timber. We have a small corner with a desk where we talk to customers and sketch out ideas on scraps of paper. It’s a bit messy, but that’s how it goes when you’re making things by hand. The estate itself is quite busy, so there’s always something going on nearby. We just focus on our benches and try to get the furniture finished on time. It’s honest work and we like seeing the final product when it’s all done.
