You can find us at Plot No-183 in the Shindhi Commercial Market. Kalupur is always crowded, especially around Chokha Bazar. It’s a loud place with people shouting and carts moving everywhere. We’ve been here for years, and the shop has stayed pretty much the same. My brothers and I take turns sitting at the counter. It’s a family thing that we took over from our elders. We deal in wholesale, so there are always stacks of goods blocking the narrow aisles. It’s a bit cramped, but that’s just how it is in the old market. We spend our days talking to regular customers who come from all over the city to buy from us. Sometimes we drink tea while waiting for the next delivery truck to find a parking spot. The floor is old stone and the walls are lined with wooden shelves that have been there since I was a kid. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we have a few old fans that hum all day. We don't have a computer system that does everything; we still write a lot of things down in our heavy account books. Dealing with the traffic in Kalupur is the hardest part of the daily job. You learn to live with the constant noise and the movement. It’s a busy life but we like being right in the middle of the market action. We stay until the shutters go down late.
