Jackson Novelties

Down in the lower level of 4-5 Park Avenue, you’ll find Jackson Novelties. We’re right across from Parimal Garden, near the cross roads in Ellisbridge. It’s a cool spot because being downstairs keeps the heat away during the summer months. The shop is filled with all sorts of items we’ve picked up over the years. Some things have been on the shelves for a while, and others go out the door as soon as they arrive. We don’t really have a system for how things are organized, but it works for us. I usually sit near the entrance and watch the people walking by the garden. It’s a nice view if you look up at the right angle. We don’t do much advertising. Most folks just stumble upon us while they’re out for a walk. The air conditioner makes a bit of a humming noise, but nobody seems to mind. We try to stay open until late evening so the office workers can stop in on their way home. It’s a quiet life in the basement, but we like the pace. Every now and then, the delivery truck blocks the driveway, and we have to run out and move things. It’s just part of the job. We aren’t some big chain store. It’s just us here at the counter, day in and day out, making sure things stay running.
