J. Smith & Co.

Working out of Plot No. 256 in the Gidc Estate at Odhav has its ups and downs. The dust from the road can get inside everything if we leave the shutters up too high, but that is just part of being in this part of town. J. Smith & Co. has been in this building for years, and the walls are covered with years of grime and old notes scribbled in pencil. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anyone to greet you at the door; usually, you just have to shout over the noise of the machines to get someone’s attention. Most of our days are spent checking measurements and making sure the production line does not hit a snag. It is a lot of physical work, and by the end of the shift, everyone is pretty tired. We usually share a few laughs during the afternoon break when the tea guy comes around the estate. The plumbing in the back is a bit finicky, and the clock on the wall has been ten minutes fast for as long as anyone can remember, but we do not mind. It is an honest way to make a living, and we just keep doing the work from our spot in Odhav. We do not use any big words to describe what we do. We just make parts, fix things, and try to keep the customers satisfied so they come back next time. That is how we have always done it at Plot 256.
