Hansraj Bhangda Party

If you walk down Ashram Road in Juna Wadaj, you might hear us before you see us. We are based right near Dandi Chowk, which is a lively part of Ahmedabad to be in. Hansraj Bhangda Party is basically a group of us who enjoy the music and the dance. It started out small, just a few people practicing, and then we started going to local events and weddings. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. It's more of a place where we keep our drums and the costumes. The costumes take up a lot of space because of all the colors and the fabric. Our days are mostly spent practicing our steps or traveling to different venues around the city. Ahmedabad traffic can be a nightmare when you're trying to get a whole group to a show on time, but we usually manage. We do a lot of night events, so our schedule is often the opposite of everyone else’s. When the sun goes down, that’s when we really start working. It’s tiring on the legs, honestly. People see the energy on stage, but they don't see us resting in the van afterwards. We just like keeping the tradition going in our own way. We’ve been at this address for a bit, and the neighbors are used to the noise by now. It’s a simple life, focused on the beat of the dhol. There isn't much more to it than that, really. We just show up and dance.
