Our workshop and office are located at B/2/12 in the Doctor House, which is right near the Parimal Railway Crossing in Ellisbridge. At Anukool Furniture Pvt. Ltd., the air usually smells like fresh wood and varnish. It’s a bit of a cramped space because we always have half-finished chairs or tables taking up the walkways. You have to watch your step so you don’t trip over a piece of timber or a toolbox. We aren't a big factory with robots; it’s mostly just people using their hands and some old power tools. The noise of the saws can be pretty loud, especially when we are trying to finish a big order. Sometimes the trains going past the crossing make the whole building shake a little, but we don't even notice it anymore. We get all kinds of people coming in looking for something for their homes or offices. We try to show them what we have, but often we are just back in the work area getting covered in sawdust. It’s a messy business, and by the end of the day, our hair and clothes are usually gray with dust. We don’t have a fancy showroom with bright lights. People just come in, look at the wood, and tell us what they need. It’s honest work, and we’ve been in this part of Ellisbridge for a long time now. We just focus on building things that last.
