Da Iict

We are located at 19 Maheshwari Society in Bapuangar, which is a busy little pocket of Ahmedabad near the Amber Cinema. Being at Da Iict means dealing with the heat for most of the year. The building is part of a residential society, so we have neighbors who are just going about their daily lives, hanging laundry or washing their porches. I usually arrive and spend some time moving the chairs around to make sure the paths between the desks are clear. We have several computers set up in the main room, and the wires are tucked away as best as we can manage. The walls were painted white once, but they have turned a bit grey over time. I keep a small calendar on my desk to keep track of the days, and it’s usually covered in scribbled notes. Most of the people who come to see us are from the surrounding blocks. It’s a short walk from the cinema, so we get a lot of foot traffic nearby. The water cooler in the corner is always being used, and I have to remember to order the new jars before we run out. It gets a bit loud in the evenings when the main road gets congested with traffic and people heading home from work. I usually spend the last hour of my day shutting everything down properly and making sure the windows are latched. It’s a steady, predictable life here in Bapuangar, and I’ve grown to like the neighborhood a lot.
