Starting early at Ratanpole, Vrundavan Shopping Centre. 5th floor is high up. The stairs are a bit steep if the lift acts up. We sit here among heaps of files. It’s a busy place. Ratanpole is always loud with shoppers. We just do the accounting and tax stuff people need. People come in with their papers in folders. Sometimes we have tea together. It’s not fancy. Just a desk and some chairs and computers that hum all day. We’ve been here a while. You get used to the sounds of the street down there. Ahmedabad is like that, always moving. Our office is just one spot in the middle of it. We don't have a big fancy lobby. Just a door and some people working. If you find your way to the 5th floor, you’ll see us. It gets dusty sometimes because of the construction nearby, but we keep the fans going. Most days we are just buried in numbers. It’s quiet work in a loud neighborhood. We know the shopkeepers around here. They drop by sometimes. It’s a local way of doing things. We don't try to be anything else. Just Arpit Bhargav & Associates doing the work from Pankorenaka. That’s about it really. We stay until the work is finished, even when the market starts closing up and the lights go dim in the hallway.
