Onkara Dairy Products is situated at 150 M.G Road, right in the Budge Budge area of Kolkata. It’s a busy spot near the police station. We deal with milk and all the things you can make from it. Every morning is a bit of a rush because the milk comes in early and it has to be processed or chilled right away. You can hear the clinking of the cans and the hum of the machines from the street. We don’t have a lot of space, so everything has to stay organized or we can't move around. The floor is almost always wet from cleaning. We get people from the neighborhood stopping by, and we’ve become a regular part of the street noise here. Working with dairy means you don't really get days off because the cows don't stop producing milk. We take turns keeping the place running. It’s a lot of lifting heavy containers and checking temperatures. Sometimes the traffic on M.G Road makes it hard for the delivery vans to get out on time, which is frustrating. We just try to get the work done so people can have their milk. We don't spend money on fancy signs or ads. We just focus on the bottles and the crates. It’s a practical business, and we’ve been doing it this way for a while now in Budge Budge.
