Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Rice & Floor Mill

Our mill is located at D.No.23-48, right near Station Road. Because we are so close to the station, we hear the trains whistling all day and night. It’s a sound we have grown used to over the years. We do both rice and floor milling here, so there is always a mix of white and brown dust on our clothes by the end of the shift. The name of the shop is long, but most people just call it the mill near the station. We have a couple of old grinding machines that have been working for years. They need a lot of oiling and care, but they get the job done eventually. People bring their wheat and grains in small bags or big sacks, depending on what they need for the week. We don't have a big office or a computer to track things; we mostly just use a notebook and a pen that sits on the wooden counter. It’s a very hands-on kind of job. Sometimes the belt on the machine snaps, and we have to stop everything to fix it while customers wait around. We don’t mind the work, even though it’s tiring on the back after a few hours. It feels good to see the fresh flour coming out warm from the stones. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
