Nandina Iron & Steels Ltd.

We are located in Ramnagar, over in the West Godavari District. It’s a bit different than being in a big city like Mumbai. Nandina Iron & Steels Ltd. has a fair amount of space here, which we need for all the iron and steel we keep. The sun can be very hot in this part of the country, so the yard gets quite dusty and warm by midday. We spend a lot of time outdoors checking the stock and talking to the drivers. It’s a simple operation. We don’t have a big fancy office building, just a practical space where we can keep the records straight. Most of the people working here are from the local area, so we all know each other well. We have our routines, starting with a bit of a meeting in the morning to see what needs to go out. The trucks come in and out through the gates, and there’s always the sound of metal being moved around. It’s not a quiet job. We don’t use a lot of complicated systems, just clear lists and hard work. When the rains come, it changes everything and we have to be careful with the mud. But mostly, it’s just the daily grind of managing the steel and making sure the counts are right. We’ve been part of the Ramnagar landscape for a long time now and we just keep at it. Life is quiet here most nights.
