Kanaka Durga & Co.

Out here in Seetarama Puram, things move at a bit of a different pace than in the big cities. Kanaka Durga & Co. is located in the Narsapur Mandalam area, which is mostly quiet except for the local traffic and the sound of birds in the trees nearby. We have been working from this location for quite a while, and most people around here know where to find us. The building is simple and doesn't have any big signs or bright lights. Most of our days are spent checking on stock or waiting for the trucks to arrive with new supplies. The weather gets pretty hot in the afternoons, so we usually keep the doors open to catch whatever breeze there is. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour or two, but we just sit on the bench outside and wait it out. It is a practical way of living. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who handle the paperwork and the lifting. The floor is made of plain concrete and it’s easy to clean after a busy day. People stop by to chat as much as they do to buy things. We know most of the families in the Mandalam, and it feels more like a community than just a place of business. There is always a pot of tea going somewhere nearby. We just do our work and go home when the sun starts to set.
