If you look for shop number 21/14 in the BB Block of Janakpuri, you’ll find us right near the Choti Subzi Mandi. It’s a very busy spot, especially with the government wine and beer shop being right there too. There is always a lot of noise from the market and people moving around. Our shop is packed with car parts, seat covers, and all sorts of things for vehicles. It’s a bit oily and smells like new rubber and cleaning fluids most of the time. We are usually out on the pavement working on a car or inside looking for a specific part in the back stacks. Space is tight, so we have to be careful where we put things down. The floor is concrete and has some stains from over the years. We see a lot of different people every day who are just passing through the mandi. It’s a local place through and through. We don’t have air conditioning, just a big pedestal fan that moves the hot air around while we work. Sometimes we sit on the little stools outside when it’s quiet, but that doesn’t happen often in Janakpuri. It’s a lot of manual labor, fixing things and fitting accessories until the sun goes down. We just keep the shop open and take things as they come, helping out whoever pulls up in front of the shop. It is a long day every day, but we are used to the noise and the constant activity.
