Sofa Palace

We have been at Shop No-78 in the Furniture Block of Kirti Nagar for a while now. If you have ever walked through this part of Delhi, you know how busy it gets. There is always someone hauling wood or heavy fabric rolls past the door. We spend most of our days right here, surrounded by foam, springs, and stacks of cloth. It is not a quiet place, but it is where the work happens. People come in looking for something to sit on that won't fall apart after a few months. We show them what we are currently working on, let them feel the frames, and talk about what fabric might last with kids or pets running around. Kirti Nagar is famous for furniture, so there are shops everywhere you look. We just try to keep our little spot organized enough so people can actually walk around the floor. Sometimes the tea guy comes by twice before we even notice we are thirsty because we are busy fixing a cushion or measuring out a new backrest. It is a lot of manual labor, really. Moving heavy wooden frames around is a two-person job most mornings. We don't have a big fancy showroom with bright lights, just the shop floor and the tools we use every day. It is dusty, and there is always thread on the floor. But that is just how it is when you are actually making things instead of just selling them out of a box.
