Palak Marriage Bureau

I spend most of my day in Tilak Nagar, Gali No 21. It is a busy spot and can get quite loud with all the traffic. People come in looking for matches for their sons and daughters from all over. We have been here at New Mahavir Nagar Wz 8/14 for a long time now. The office isn't very big but it gets the job done for us. There are many files stacked up on the wooden shelves behind my chair. Sometimes the tea boy from next door forgets our order or brings it cold, but that is just how things go around here. We talk to families all day long. It can be tiring to listen to all the requirements people have for a bride or groom. Everyone wants something very specific. We just try to help them find someone decent. The street outside is always noisy with scooters and people shouting at each other. My desk is a bit messy with notes and phone numbers written on small scraps of paper. It is not some fancy corporate place with glass walls. We just sit here on plastic chairs and talk. Some days are slow and we just drink water and look out the window at the rainy street. Other days, three families show up at once and there isn't enough room to sit. I have to borrow a stool from the shop across the lane. It is honest work and it keeps us busy. (250 words)
