Jyoti Timbers

We’ve been here at Plot No. 8 in Swarn Park for quite a while now. Most people around Nangloi know us as Jyoti Timbers. It’s mostly just a yard where we keep different kinds of wood. It gets dusty, and the saws make a lot of noise throughout the day. We spend most of our time measuring logs or helping people figure out what kind of timber they need for their house projects. Sometimes the stock is full, and other times we’re waiting on a truck to arrive. It’s just how the timber business goes. We don’t have a fancy office or anything. There’s a small desk where we handle the paperwork, but usually, you’ll find us out back near the stacks. We handle everything from basic planks to larger beams. The weather affects how we work, especially when it rains and we have to cover everything up quickly. It’s hard work, moving heavy pieces of wood all day, but it’s what we do. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. People come in with sketches on scraps of paper, and we try to get them the right pieces. It’s a straightforward setup. No big bells or whistles here. Just a lot of wood and the tools to cut it down to size. We stay busy enough and try to keep the yard organized, though it’s a constant struggle with new arrivals coming in.
