Bajaj Fruits

We are tucked away in Shakti Mandir Gali at A-2/40 Rajouri Garden. Bajaj Fruits is the kind of place that starts moving long before most people are even awake. Every morning, the trucks come in and we start the heavy work of unloading crates of whatever is fresh from the market. It’s a lot of lifting and sorting, and the floor usually has a few stray leaves or bits of wood from the boxes. The Gali can be a bit tight, but we’ve managed to run things from this spot for a long time. Neighbors stop by on their way to the temple or while they are out for their daily walk. We don’t bother with bright lights or fancy displays; we just stack the fruit in wooden crates and keep things simple. My hands usually smell like oranges or apples by the time the afternoon rolls around. It’s a bit of a rush sometimes, especially when a lot of people show up at once during the evening. We just try to keep the produce moving so it stays good. Sometimes when it rains, we have to move everything back under the cover very quickly. It’s just a regular fruit shop where we know which batch is the best. We don't do anything special, just handle the fruit and talk to the people who come in. By the end of the day, we’re usually tired but the shelves are mostly empty, which is how we like it.
