I run my office, Arvind Kumar Gupta Co, out of J 4A in the Nightingale Apartments in Vikas Puri. It is a residential building, so it doesn't feel like a typical business environment. You have to go up the stairs and past the neighbor's shoe rack to get to my door. Inside, I have turned one of the main rooms into a workspace. It is filled with metal cabinets and a few heavy desks. I like working from here because it is quiet and I don't have to deal with the traffic of the main road. My day usually starts with the sound of the milkman and the newspaper being dropped off. I spend a lot of time reviewing documents and checking figures. I don't have a big staff, so I end up doing most of the chores myself, like making sure there is enough ink in the printer or paper in the trays. The apartment has a small balcony where I go to stand for a few minutes when my eyes get tired from looking at the screen. People who come to visit usually comment on how calm it is here compared to the rest of New Delhi. I try to keep everything organized, though my desk is usually buried under a mountain of folders by Wednesday. It is a practical way to work that keeps me close to home.
