Kedar Chura Mills

Our mill is in Ward No. 3, right near the Shyam Cinema Hall in Chanpatia. It’s in West Champaran. Having the cinema hall nearby is good because everyone knows where that is. We make chura, which keeps us very busy. The smell of the rice is quite strong in the morning. We have a small crew of people from the local area. Most of us have been working together for a long time now. We don't really have a formal way of doing things, we just know what needs to be done. The building is a bit cramped sometimes with all the bags of rice piled up. We have to move things around to make space. It gets loud when the mills are running, so we have to shout to hear each other. Chanpatia is a decent place to work. We have our regulars who come by for their supply. We don't use any fancy sales talk. We just show them what we have. Sometimes the weather makes the work hard, like when it’s too humid for the rice. We just adjust and keep at it. The floor is old and the walls could use some paint, but the machines are what matter. We spend our days making sure the chura is right. It’s a regular job and it keeps us going. If you are near the cinema, you can’t miss us. We have been in Ward No. 3 for a long time.
