Fooday Spices India Private Limited is situated in Kalpetta, Wayanad. Our place is in the Snehanagar neighborhood in Emily. We work out of a house called Ambalapuram House, at number 4/202-11. Being up here in Wayanad means we are surrounded by hills and a whole lot of greenery. The air outside usually smells like fresh rain or wet earth, but inside our doors, it is all about the spices. We spend most of our time drying, grinding, and packing different varieties. It can get a bit dusty with all the fine powders in the air, so we wear masks and keep the windows open for a breeze. Wayanad is famous for its spice gardens, so we always have plenty of product to work with throughout the year. We are not a massive factory filled with robots. It is mostly just local people doing the work by hand or using simple grinding machines. We have a few rooms dedicated to different types of spices. Sometimes the sharp smell of dried chili is so strong it makes everyone in the room sneeze at once. Other days it’s the sweet and heavy smell of cardamom. We have a small team from the surrounding area who mostly walk to work. The street outside is narrow and usually very quiet. We load the small delivery trucks and they head out to the main road. It is a simple life in the hills.
