Uppamma Farms

Uppamma Farms is situated at H. No:-10-33/1 in Khanapuram, Warangal. This is where we do all our agricultural work. It’s a quiet area for the most part, except when we are running the machinery or the tractors. We grow a variety of things depending on what time of year it is and the weather. The work is steady but hard on the body. We start when the light is still grey and keep going until we can’t see the rows anymore in the evening. It’s all about the soil and the water here. We spend a lot of time maintaining the fences and making sure the irrigation pipes aren't leaking in the heat. It’s not like those big corporate farms you see on TV. We do most of the stuff by hand or with small tools. The storage area is usually full of sacks and old tools that we keep meaning to fix when we have time. People from Khanapuram know where we are if they need anything from the farm. We don’t bother with flyers or big signs. The work speaks for itself when the harvest finally comes in. We’ve had good years and lean years, but we just keep planting anyway. It’s an honest way to live. My clothes are usually stained with mud or dust, but that’s fine with me. We just focus on the crops and making sure the land is taken care of. It is just a small place run by real people.
