Srilatha Farms

I’m Srilatha, and I run my farm from house 1-64 in Maheshwaram. It’s a busy spot in the Narsampet region of Warangal. Every morning is the same routine, starting with a cup of tea before I head out to see what the night has done to the plants. Srilatha Farms is a family effort, with everyone pitching in when they aren't at school or their other jobs. We have a small patch of land that we try to keep productive all year round. The house at 1-64 is usually full of empty baskets and tools waiting to be used. Maheshwaram is a place where you have to work hard to get anything out of the ground. The sun can be brutal in the afternoon, so we try to get the heavy lifting done before noon. I spend a lot of time worrying about the well water levels. It’s a lot of manual labor, weeding by hand and making sure the pests stay away. We don’t have any fancy mission statements or corporate goals. Our only goal is to make sure we have something to sell at the end of the season. Sometimes the harvest is great, and sometimes it’s just okay. That’s just how it goes with farming. It’s a real, messy life, but it’s ours. We keep our heads down and just do the work that needs doing, day in and day out.
