Lakshmi Farm

Out here in Kothur, specifically at house number 3-107, we spend our days on the land. Khanapur is a good area for farming if the weather behaves. My family and I have been working this soil for a long time. It’s Lakshmi Farm, but it’s really just our home and the fields around it. We grow what we can depending on the season. Sometimes it’s grains, other times it might be something else the market needs. There is always work to do, whether it’s weeding or checking the water pipes. The sun gets hot in Warangal, so we start very early in the morning before the heat becomes too much to handle. We don’t use any of those big fancy machines you see on TV, just basic tools and a lot of manual labor. It’s a quiet life for the most part. We see the same neighbors every day and we all talk about the rain or the price of seeds. When harvest time comes, everyone is tired but it feels good to see the crops coming in. We don’t sell to big supermarkets or anything. Mostly, it’s just local trade and keeping the farm going for the next year. If you come by the house, you’ll see the tractors or the tools leaning against the wall. It’s just honest work under the sky. We try to save enough water for the dry months coming because it gets very dusty here.
