Venketrama General Stores

Venketrama General Stores is located right on the Visakhapatnam Main Road. Being on the main road means there is always noise from the buses and cars passing by. It’s a very visible spot in the 530003 area. We’ve seen the road change quite a bit over the years. The shop itself is pretty straightforward. We have the usual wooden counters and glass jars filled with different kinds of pulses and grains. People come here because it’s convenient. You don't have to go far into the narrow lanes to find us. Sometimes the sea breeze reaches us, which is nice when the weather gets humid. We spend our mornings checking the inventory and writing down what needs to be ordered for the next week. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy bags and rearranging the stock so the older stuff gets used first. We don't use any fancy displays. The items are just there on the shelves for anyone to see. Most of our regulars are people who have lived in Visakhapatnam for decades. They know us by name, and we know exactly what brand of oil or soap they prefer. It’s a very personal way of doing business. No one is in a huge rush here, even though the main road outside is so fast. We just take things one day at a time, making sure the shop stays open and ready for whoever stops by to buy their supplies.
