Subadra Hair Saloon

The shop at Subadra Hair Saloon has been on the Gajuwaka Mainroad for quite some time now, right near the Hanuman Temple. You can usually hear the bells from the temple while we are working inside. It is a small place, really. We have three chairs, but usually, only two of us are working at once because things get cramped if everyone shows up at the same time. The mirrors have some spots on them that we can’t seem to scrub off, but they do the job just fine. Most days start around nine when we roll up the shutter and sweep out the hair from the evening before. It gets dusty because of all the traffic on the road outside, so we have to wipe the counters twice a day. We don't have fancy lights or anything, just those long tube lights that flicker a bit when they first turn on. Most people who come here live just a few streets away, so we know their names and how they like their hair cut without even asking anymore. Sometimes the water pressure is a bit low in the mornings, so we have to keep a bucket filled up just in case. We have an old radio that mostly plays local stations, though sometimes the signal cuts out when a big truck goes past. It isn't much, but it’s where we spend our whole day, every day.
