Srinivasa Rise & General Stores

This shop, Srinivasa Rise & General Stores, is tucked away on Dondaparthi Bazar Road in Visakhapatnam. We handle a lot of rice bags here, so there is usually a bit of grain on the floor by noon. Being at D.No.46-20-78 means we see a lot of traffic passing by. It’s a noisy street but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We sell the basic groceries that families in the neighborhood look for every week. We aren't doing anything special, just selling what’s on the list. The bags of rice are stacked up near the back. Sometimes the humidity in Vizag makes things a bit sticky, but we try to keep the place airy. We know the people who live in the apartments nearby. They come in for a kilo of this or a bottle of that. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just write things down in a notebook when the stock gets low. It’s a small space, so things can get a bit crowded when more than three people come in at once. We usually have the radio playing quietly in the corner. If we don’t have something, we usually tell people where else they might find it. It's just a local business on a busy road. We open early and close when the street gets quiet. We’ve been here long enough that we feel like part of the road itself.
