Gajuwaka is always a bit of a hectic place to be, and our spot near Sri Chaitanya is no different. We have the beauty parlour in the front and the training part in the back where the girls practice. It’s often a bit messy with bowls of henna or herbal pastes sitting around. We use a lot of natural stuff, so the whole place usually smells like dried leaves or turmeric. There are always a few students hanging around, learning how to hold a thread or apply a pack properly. It gets a bit loud when everyone is talking at once, especially when a class is going on. The furniture is a bit worn out from all the use it gets. We have a few mirrors that have seen better days, but they still work fine for what we need. People come here because they know us from the neighborhood, not because of some big advertisement. We spend our days teaching and doing facials, often working late if there’s a big group of students. The water pressure isn't always great, so we keep some tanks filled up just in case. It’s just a practical place for women to learn a skill or get some basic grooming done without any fuss.
