Munny Beauty Parlour

Munny Beauty Parlour is located in Gajuwaka, right across from the Aruna Lodge on B C Road. It is a simple place where women from the neighborhood come to get their eyebrows done or maybe get some henna in their hair. I usually start the day by cleaning the floor and setting out the towels. The traffic on B C Road can be quite loud, so there is always the sound of horns and buses passing by outside. Inside, I try to keep it calm. I have a few mirrors and the chairs are comfortable enough for a short stay. Often, ladies just drop in without calling first, so they sit and talk while I finish up with someone else. We talk about our kids or what’s cooking for dinner that night. I keep my thread and wax heaters on the side table. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just use the natural light from the door. It gets very busy on the weekends especially when there is a local wedding or a festival coming up. I spend a lot of time standing on my feet, but I am used to it by now. After a long day of work, I pack up my things, turn off the fans, and head back to my house. It is a small business but it keeps me busy and I know almost everyone who walks through the door.
