Kanaka Durga General Stores

We are situated at 12-11-1A in the Prakashraopeta area, which is right by the Visakhapatnam Airport. You can hear the planes taking off and landing all day long. It’s a sound we have grown used to at Kanaka Durga General Stores. Vizag is a humid place, especially being so close to the coast. The air always feels a bit salty. Our store is a small brick building with many shelves. We stock everything from washing powder to local snacks. We get a lot of people who work at the airport or live in the nearby houses. The floor is made of old grey cement and has some cracks here and there. It’s not a fancy showroom. We just have the things people need for their homes. Sometimes the monkeys from the trees nearby try to come close, so we have to keep an eye out. We spend a lot of time talking to the neighbors about the weather or the local news. It’s a slow pace of life compared to the city center. We don't have any big slogans or advertisements. People know where we are. We open the doors at seven in the morning and don't close until late at night. It’s hard work but we are part of this community in Prakashraopeta. We just keep the shelves filled and the shop clean as much as we can for our customers.
