Dondaparthy is a busy place in Visakhapatnam and our shop at 46-20-87 has been here for years. At Janata Rice & General Stores, we focus a lot on rice, so we have many different varieties in large sacks stacked against the walls. The air in Vizag is usually quite humid because we are close to the sea, which means I have to be careful about how the grain is stored so it doesn't get spoiled. Besides rice, we keep all the other general things like sugar, salt, and various bathroom supplies. The shop is quite deep, and it can get a bit dark in the back if the bulbs aren't working right. I usually have to use a trolley to move the heavy bags around because they are quite a weight for one person to carry. People from all over the neighborhood come here because they know we have the specific type of rice they like for their daily meals. The street outside is always full of activity, with autos and bikes zooming past. I spend my time weighing out portions and tying up plastic bags with that yellow twine. It is hard work, especially on the hot days when the humidity makes you sweat just by standing still. We don't have any fancy signs, just the name of the shop and the items we sell. It is a practical business for practical people.
