Ganesh Hair Saloon

Ganesh Hair Saloon has been sitting here on the Main Road in Dondaparthy for quite a while. We are at Door No: 46-13-52/2, which is very close to the Ramalayam Temple. You can usually hear the temple bells from inside the shop, especially in the mornings and evenings. Visakhapatnam gets very humid, so the ceiling fans are always running at full speed in here. The shop is right on the main road, so there is a lot of dust and noise from the traffic, but we just keep the mirrors clean and keep working. We have a few chairs and big mirrors that cover most of one wall. Most of the men who come here are workers from the nearby shops or people who live in the back streets of Dondaparthy. They come in for a quick shave or a head massage after a long day. I usually have a small radio playing Telugu songs in the corner. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when three or four people are waiting, but nobody seems to mind leaning against the wall. I’ve been cutting hair since I was a young man and I don't know any other way to spend my day. The temple being so close gives the place a good feeling. It’s an honest shop where you get what you ask for without any fuss or expensive prices.
