D.G The Salon has been sitting here in Chinnagadili for a while now, right across from the Sai Baba Temple in Arilova. Being in Visakhapatnam, the air is always a bit salty and humid, which does interesting things to people’s hair. We spend a lot of our time trying to fix that frizz or just cutting it all off so people stay cool in the heat. The shop is located at Door No 6-250, and it’s a pretty straightforward place. We have our mirrors, our chairs, and a stack of old newspapers or magazines for people waiting their turn. On Thursdays, it’s a bit different because of the temple crowds across the street, so we see a lot more foot traffic then. We aren’t trying to be the most stylish place in Vizag, just a reliable one where you can get a decent shave or a haircut without any fuss. The floor is tiled and we try to keep it swept, though hair has a way of hiding in the corners. Our staff knows most of the regulars by name now, and we usually know exactly how they want their hair before they even sit down. It’s a small shop life, really. We open up early, drink our coffee, and start the day’s work. There is always someone coming in with a new story or a bit of local news to share while we work and listen.
