This office is a bit of a long way from Assam. We are located in Visakhapatnam, specifically at Pawan Residency, Flat No. 305 in Kurmannapalem. Dibyendu Jyoti Kar is the name you’ll usually hear around here. It’s a quiet flat in a residential building, which might seem strange for a government tourism department, but it works for us. We have stacks of maps and pamphlets about places like Kaziranga or the tea gardens back home, sitting on the tables. The office feels more like a home than a government bureau. We have a few chairs for visitors and a desk that’s usually covered in notes and local contact lists. Kurmannapalem is quite far from the main Vizag city center, so it’s peaceful. We don't get huge crowds of people walking in, which gives us time to talk properly to anyone who does stop by. Sometimes we just sit and discuss travel routes or how the weather is back in Guwahati compared to the humidity here in Andhra Pradesh. We don't have a fancy sign or a big lobby. It’s just flat 305. We try to answer the phone whenever it rings and help people figure out their trips to the northeast. It’s a small operation, just a few people in a residency building, doing our bit to tell people about Assam while living here in Vizag. It's a quiet life but we stay busy.
