S. R. V. Modern Rice Mill

Our mill is at No. 13/5 Kaattu Kotai Main Road in Ammaiyar, which is right behind the Jeevan Matriculation School in Palayam. If you stand in our yard, you can often hear the kids playing or the teachers talking during their break times. S. R. V. Modern Rice Mill is a place where there is always a bit of white dust in the air from the husking and grinding process. We have the big milling machines set up in the main shed, and they make a steady thumping sound that you can hear from the road. Most of our day is spent unloading sacks of paddy from the local farmers and making sure the quality is right before it goes into the machines. It’s not a clean or quiet job, but it is what we do here in Palayam. We have a small shack near the gate where we keep the records and where the drivers wait for their loads. The road out front can get a bit muddy when it rains, making it hard for the trucks, but we manage to keep things moving regardless. We’ve been here for several years now, and the school next door has grown quite a bit since we started. We just focus on the rice and making sure the bags are filled and stitched up properly. It’s a basic, honest living, and we don't really have time for anything besides the daily grind of the mill.
