Arumugam Modern Rice Mill

We are located right here at No: 72 on Devanoor Road in Argandanallur. It’s a busy spot in Tirukkoyilur. Most days start pretty early because that is when the work gets done. There is usually a lot of noise from the machines and a bit of dust in the air, but that is just how a rice mill is. We’ve been at this for a while now. The building isn't anything fancy to look at from the outside, but it works for what we need. People around here know the gates are usually open and there is someone around to talk to. We handle the grain as it comes in and make sure things are moving along. Sometimes the weather makes things a bit slow, especially when it rains hard on Devanoor Road, but we manage. It’s mostly just hard work and making sure the equipment stays running. My hands are usually a bit rough from the work and the bags. We don't spend much time on computers or anything like that. We just focus on the rice and the people who come by. It’s a simple setup. If you walk down the road, you can probably hear the hullers going from a distance. That’s just the way it has been for years. We keep the floor swept when we can, but it’s a constant job with all the husks. It is a local life here in Argandanallur. We just keep going day by day.
