Vijaya Lakshmi Rice & General Stores

Our shop, Vijaya Lakshmi Rice & General Stores, is located at Door No 10-10-5 in Vijayawada. We are right in Brahmanveedhi, and if you are looking for us, we are very near the big Raavi Chettu. Everyone knows that tree, so it makes it easy for people to find us. As you can tell from the name, we deal mostly in rice. We have big heavy bags piled up and we spend a good part of the day weighing out portions for customers. It can be a bit dusty with all the grain, so we are always cleaning the floor. Aside from rice, we keep some general items that people need for their kitchens. The street here is quite narrow and it gets very crowded during the festivals. We’ve been at this location for many years. We know most of the families who live around Brahmanveedhi. They come to us because they know we’ve been here forever. We don't have any fancy computers to run the shop. We just use a paper ledger and a pen to keep track of things. The ceiling fan is old and makes a bit of noise, but it keeps the air moving. Vijayawada gets very hot in the summer, so we try to do the heavy lifting in the early morning. It’s just a regular local shop where we work hard and talk to our neighbors every day.
