Sri Lakshmi Srinivasa General Stores sits on Gulabchand Street in Vijayawada. It is a very old part of the city, and being near the Shivlayam Temple means there are always people walking past our door at H.No.11-54-42. We hear the temple bells throughout the day, which is a nice background sound while we work. The shop is filled with bags of grain, spices, and all the little things people need for their kitchens. It gets quite humid here in Vijayawada, so we have to be careful about how we store everything. The floor is made of old stone and stays relatively cool even when the sun is beating down on the street outside. We have a lot of regular customers who have been coming to us for years. They know exactly where to find what they want, but they still ask us how the family is doing. We don't use any fancy computers, just a simple calculator and a notebook to write things down. Sometimes the street gets blocked by a cart or a cow, and everything slows down for a bit. That is just how life is here. We try to keep the shelves stocked with the brands our neighbors prefer. It is a small space, but it serves the purpose well. There is always a faint smell of incense and spices hanging in the air. We are just happy to be a part of this busy street near the temple.
