Siva General Stores

We are situated on the Railway Station Road in the Madhura Nagar part of Srinagar Colony. In Vijayawada the weather is often quite humid so the shop can feel a bit sticky in the afternoons. Being so close to the railway station means there is a constant sound of trains and whistles in the background. We have people coming in from the colony for their regular house supplies like soaps and detergents and also travelers who need a bottle of water or some biscuits before they catch their train. The shop is full of small items and we try to keep things organized on the racks but it gets crowded sometimes. We open early when the sun is just coming up to get everything ready for the morning rush. The local milkman drops off the packets and we stack them in the cooler. There are a lot of students and office workers around here who stop by for a pen or a small notebook. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when the street outside is baking. We spend the day weighing out rice and dal or counting out change for customers. It is a busy spot on a busy road and there is never really a quiet moment until we pull the shutters down late at night. The streetlights outside stay on and the traffic keeps moving even after we have gone home.
