Satosh General Store

Being right near the police station in Maharajpura means there is always something happening outside the shop. We are tucked into DD Nagar and the neighbors here are mostly folks who have lived in Gwalior for years. I started working here because it was close to home and it just became a routine that stuck. The mornings are quiet until about nine when people realize they ran out of milk or sugar. I have a small radio that plays in the background but half the time I can't even hear it over the sound of the ceiling fan. The shelves are a bit tall so I keep a small plastic stool handy to reach the top where we keep the bulky stuff like the bigger oil tins. It gets dusty pretty fast with the road right there so I have to wipe down the glass counters at least three times a day. People often stop by just to ask for directions since we are a known spot in the area. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit mixed up and I have to spend my Sunday afternoon counting packets of spices or soaps. It is a simple life and the work is steady enough to keep us busy from sunrise until we pull the shutters down at night. I like seeing the kids grow up and start coming in to buy their own snacks instead of holding their parents' hands.
