M/S Sri Vijaya Lakshmi Rice And General Stores

We are located on K.T. Road in the Kotha Peta area of Vijayawada. This part of town is always moving, and the heat can be something else entirely. The main thing we handle is rice. We have these big gunny bags lined up along the walls, and the smell of raw grain is the first thing you notice when you walk in. I spend a lot of my time weighing out portions for customers and then sewing the bags shut if they are buying in bulk. My hands are usually covered in a fine white dust from the rice. Besides that, we carry the usual general store items, like oils and pulses. The shop is quite deep but not very wide. We have an old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, but we’re used to it. The ledger sits on a small wooden desk in the corner where I do the math. I’ve been using the same type of calculator for ten years. Customers come in and talk about the harvest or the local politics while I work. It’s a noisy street outside with all the rickshaws and lorries going past. We don't have a glass storefront, just the open shutter and the bags of rice sitting there. It’s a practical place, and we just focus on getting the orders right and making sure we don't run out of the popular varieties. It is hard work, but we are here every morning.
