Dhanraj General Store

The shop sits right near the DCM Chouraha in Kota and things get pretty busy around here especially when the sun starts going down. I usually get here early to open up the shutters and sweep the front before anyone else is really awake. Most people just stop by for small things like a packet of biscuits or some detergent for the week. We keep a lot of stuff crammed onto the shelves because you never know what someone might ask for at the last minute. The fans are always running but it still gets hot in the afternoons during the summer months. Sometimes students from the nearby areas come in looking for notebooks or pens and they are always in a hurry. Dealing with the distributors is a whole other thing because the trucks get stuck in traffic near the intersection. I spend a lot of time just rearranging the jars of candy on the counter so the kids can see them easily. It is not a very big place but we have been at this address for a long time now. You see the same faces every single day and you get to know who likes what brand of tea. There is always some noise from the road outside with the horns and the buses passing by constantly. Usually I am just sitting on the stool near the register waiting for the next person to walk through the door with a list of groceries.
