Bala Manikantha Rice And General Stores is our family business in Vijayawada. You can find us at Door No 10-19-81 on Brahmin Street. We are right in the One Town area, and our shop is actually beside the Rama Mandiram. It’s a nice spot because we can hear the temple bells and the prayers throughout the day. It makes the work feel a bit more peaceful. We mostly sell different kinds of rice, but we also have general items for the house. One Town is an old part of the city, so the streets are very narrow and always full of people and scooters. Our building is quite old too, but it’s sturdy and has seen many years of business. We use traditional scales to weigh out the grain because they are reliable and don't need batteries. My son helps me out with the heavy lifting because the rice bags are quite a lot for me to handle now. We don't have any air conditioning, just the natural breeze from the door and a couple of fans. In the hot months, we keep a big pot of water for anyone who is walking by and needs a drink. We’ve been here so long that we don't even need a sign anymore, people just know where we are. It's a simple, honest shop and we take pride in being here every day.
